HELPFUL INFORMATION written by the NRS In-House Occupational Therapist
It is of vital importance to choose the correct solution to your moving and handling needs. This will help to prevent injury and ensure safety and comfort when moving in any situation.
Handling Belts
Transfer Boards
(Pages 126-127) are designed to bridge gaps and enable a person to slide across from one surface to another, with or without carer assistance. Good upper body strength and balance is important to enable the safe use of transfer boards. Curved boards are useful when transferring to a chair with a fixed armrest.
(Pages 128) can be placed around a person’s waist to provide an extra grip for carers when assisting a person
transferring or during walking practice – they should not be used to lift. The NRS range of handling belts comes in sizes to suit
most people, fromsmall children to larger adults.
Slide Sheets
(Pages 130-134) allow a person to be repositioned ormoved across a level surface easily and comfortably. They aremade of a slippery low frictionmaterial and should be removed immediately after use. One way slide sheets can help a personmove up a bed or chair safety and prevent themslipping forwards.
