Artist Comes Home There was a great turnout at the W.C. Bradley Co. Museum for

the opening reception of Visions & Fissures, an exhibition of paint- ings by Columbus’ own Sarah Kent Butler. Sarah has studied in both the U. S. and Paris, and we were proud (as were her parents Kent and Steve Butler) to have Sarah bring her art home for her friends and family to enjoy, including Jane and Gary Bayer and daughter, Carson, Tammy Beck, Susan Wiggins, Susan and Ron Wirt, Cameron Bean, Garry Pound and Lally McGuirk. Many there including Iva Hudson, Tammy Beck, Susan Wiggins,

Mary Dana Knight, Faye Melton, Betsy Staples, Alan and Jewett Rothschild and Tom and Sherry Wade have known Sarah since she was a young girl studying art at Brookstone School. Congrats to Sarah on her exhibition and best wishes on her upcoming wedding to another Columbus native, medical school student Matt West.

from WRBL did an amazing job in gigging up those bids (yes, mine included!) ably assisted by Joey Robinson and the other fine hosts at Outside World in Uptown Columbus. Others enjoying the most interesting evening —and bidding on the rain barrels!— included Beth Dreelin, who was there with mom Dorothy, Ceil Bone, Jeff Ribnik and Terri Parodi, Dawn Minty and Jeff Hen- driks, Belita Walker, Jim and Brinkley Pound, Brad Barnes and Robert Watkins.

Girl Power Most folks wouldn’t think I needed much empowering, but sis-

ters, let me tell you, I was inspired at Davis Broadcasting’s Wom- en’s Empowerment Luncheon, which featured keynote speaker Sheryl Lee Ralph. A huge crowd of more than 1,200 women (and a few confident men!) gathered at the Trade Center to celebrate “Women Leaving a Legacy” and honored Mayor Pro Tem Evelyn Turner Pugh. It was grand to see so many friends including Max- ine Lee, Pino Wells, Marlene Olivie, Jim Rutland, Rose McRae, Liz Turner, Ron and Lou Hale, Jaunita Booker, Robin Lee Wal- lace, Karen Greyer, Margaret Intersol, Crystal Shahid, Tiny Washington, Barbara Mack, Calvin Smyre, Carolyn Obleton, Malinda Shamburger and Carolyn Hugley. Ralph, who created the role of Deena Jones in the original Dreamgirls on Broadway, and was most recently seen in TV series Moesha, was a powerful speaker and revved the crowed up with her inspirational message of empowerment, as did several of the local speakers including Chris Chi Granville, Mayor Teresa Tomlinson, Shana Frunsha, Geniece Granville, Willietta Grant and Dr. Sandra Anderson.

Wines, handcrafted beers and Southern spirits were enjoyed by a record number of over 1,000 guests at the fourth an- nual Toast of the Town to ben- efit the Columbus Symphony Orchestra. This year’s Toast raised $75,000.
