From the I had a thrilling day yesterday. In

light of my health issues, those kinds of days have sadly been too

few and way too far between lately. A cou- ple of weeks ago Dick Stone asked me if I’d be interested in coming to a Tursday, First Presbyterian Church, Men’s Prayer Break- fast. These good men have been praying for Jill and me and our family for almost four years, since shortly after my cancer diagnosis. Might I be interested in coming and giving them an update? Would I like to tell them what it has meant to me—to us—to have been regularly mentioned in the prayers of some men who are pillars of this community? Would I still be interested after finding out they meet at 7:15 a.m.? I got up at 5:30, broke bread and got to see and be a part of their weekly, early morning time of prayer for people who are suffering from all types of life situations. People with cancer, folks who are suffering from post traumatic stress disorder and young people who are entering their time of religious confirmation were mentioned, and kind words of healing and concern were said. I’m so glad I went. My great day didn’t end there. Most

of my afternoon was spent with a new friend. I met him through mutual friends

from Eufaula, who gave him my name as a contact here in the Columbus area. He and his partners are considering bring- ing a new restaurant concept to our area, and he only knows our market through the numbers he has gleaned from several sources. When he rolled out of town yes- terday, he left with an earful of my very best work. When I got back to the office late yes-

terday afternoon, Jill saw the smile on my face and she said, “You had a good day today, because you had an audience all day!” She knows me so well. And I did have a great day. I SOLD this town! Te river, our neighborhoods, the great people, our now-famous public/private economic development projects, Fort Benning, new developments in downtown and on the Phenix City side of the river, local corpo- rate entities, schools and universities, arts, philanthropy, churches and recreational opportunities. It felt good to just let it fly. The pages of this magazine will tell

even more of the story of why it is a great time to be in the Chattahoochee Valley. Read on.
