SWRE Student Attends Touchstone Leadership Event What are the qualities of a good leader? How can you or I

be a positive infl uence for the people around us? How can we make the world a better place? These are a few of the questions Isaac Tisdel and other

students considered as participants in the 2013 Touchstone Energy Leadership Summit held Saturday, January 19, in Oklahoma City. Isaac attends Navajo High School near Altus. Justin Young, a student at Northside High School north of

Vernon, had also been scheduled to participate in the event, but was unable to attend due to illness. The two high school seniors earned their spots at the

summit by their scores in the 2012 SWRE Youth Tour Essay Contest held last spring. At the Oklahoma City summit, Tisdel joined more than 25

students from 14 other Oklahoma cooperatives for a day of activities that taught them how to be leaders and positive role models in their schools and communities. The fast-paced training was led by an energetic team of

talented and professional presenters from YourNextSpeaker – Rhett Laubach, Kelly Barnes and Sarah Reasnor. The trainers shared personal insights that encouraged

self-awareness, and coached the students on ways to identify their own strengths and expand their network of relationships. The activities captured the students’ complete attention

and seemed to make a difference for all of them. One student at the event called the event “life changing”. In addition to the dynamic curriculum of leadership skills,

each summit participant received a $250 scholarship from Touchstone Energy.

Although Young was unable to attend, since his absence

was unpreventable due to illness he will also receive the $250 Touchstone scholarship. At the conclusion of the leadership summit, students at-

tended an Oklahoma City Barons hockey game in OKC’s Bricktown. The Barons defeated the San Antonio Rampage in a close match-up game. Isaac is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Randy Tisdel of Altus. Justin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Young of Vernon.
