Industry News Service offers bespoke batch control solutions
A SYSTEM SERVICE for designing, man- ufacturing and commissioning packaged batch control solutions, for use in appli- cations such as hygienic processing, water treatment, food and beverage, phar- maceutical and chemicals, has been introduced by Burkert UK. The batch control solutions offer the advantages of integrating fluid control products, with third-party products - where required - in systems that are bespoke to customer requirements. The systems are optimised for performance and designed to meet specific sector requirements regarding hygiene.
Burkert is able to combine process and laboratory automation, valve elements, sensors, flowmeters, water treatment sys- tems and networked communications
into single source customised systems that deliver higher process efficiency and also higher yields with reduced waste. The scope of Burkert’s service involves complete project responsibility, from conception through design, manufacture, assembly and testing. It covers both small and large production runs, extends to integration of third-party equipment, and offers the key benefit of simplifying equipment designs; making them more compact and easier to use. Predicting growth The rapid growth of computer and
communication technology means manufacturing areas are becoming more automated, increasingly deploying intelligent devices to monitor and control unmanned facilities. This is according to new analysis from Frost & Sullivan.
The report, ‘Analysis of the Global Industrial Computers Market’ has found that as compe- tition has intensified across all industries, companies need to increase their process efficiency, quality and productivity. Establishing successful automa- tion systems requires faster and more reliable networking solu- tions, such as industrial comput- ers. The global industrial computers market earned rev- enues of $2134.4 million in 2011 and is estimated to reach $3,216.6 million in 2015.
The industrial computers market has been thriving in the Far East, forcing European and American competitors to keep their prices down.

Plan ahead
npower is advising large energy users to start planning their winter energy management strategy now to ensure they are well prepared to take control of their energy costs. One key step businesses can take is to put systems in place to better man- age Triads and the transmission fees that result from them. Each year, three half-hour periods of peak energy demand, known as Triads, are called by the National Grid, and the demand in these periods is used to set transmission fees (TNUoS), which can be part of your energy bill. Triads fall between November and February, usually between 5-6pm dur- ing cold weather spells, when industri- al demand coincides with the high domestic tea-time period. However, businesses that have
TNUoS as a pass-through charge on their bill can actively manage their con- sumption, and therefore their costs, during these times as part of an ener- gy management strategy. npower offers a Triad warning service for cus- tomers, so that businesses can make an informed choice on how to manage their consumption.
Businesses can estimate how much they could save by responding to Triad warnings using npower’s free Triad savings calculator tool at
