Process steam training seminar
Engineering covering the efficient use of process steam has achieved a Level 3 BTEC Advanced Award, offering a nationally recognised qualification to those following the syllabus. The BTEC-approved syllabus explains the fundamentals of steam and condensate; system design, pipe sizing, valve sizing and best practice; steam trap testing, management and maintenance; improving efficiency and reducing losses; pressure reduction, temperature control and metering; and trapping and condensate return. This is followed by a multiple-choice examination, written paper and observation-based test to gain certification. The three-day seminars are held at TLV’s purpose-designed, state-of-the-art training facility at its European headquarters in Germany, where the flow dynamics of steam and condensate systems can be viewed and participants receive hands-on training from TLV instructors with many years experience, expertise and knowledge of steam systems. Participants also have the opportunity to discuss specific applications, raise issues and seek advice from TLV staff. The cost of the three-day seminar includes BTEC administration fees, flights, transfers to/from Frankfurt airport, accommodation and all meals and refreshments.

Flo-Tel™+ now meets international standards for use in explosive atmospheres
eading rupture disc manufacturer Elfab (
www.elfab.com) has been awarded IECEx approval for its advanced burst detection system, Flo-Tel™+. Flo-Tel™+ is the only non-invasive, fail-safe detection system on the market. Offering a wide range of benefits to customers in safety-critical environments, Flo-Tel™+ can be either hardwired or used in conjunction with Elfab’s fail-safe wireless detection system, Radio-Tel™. Modern industrial automation has increased the need for electrical equipment in hazardous areas, where flammable liquids, vapours, gases or combustible dusts could present a fire or explosion hazard. The use of equipment, especially electrical, in these areas is highly regulated. IECEx approval ensures that equipment and systems are manufactured and operated according to the highest international safety standards. At a time when stringent safety standards are of utmost importance, Flo-Tel™+ offers unprecedented advantages, from triggering alarms to shutting down a process. IECEx approval certifies the Flo-Tel™+ system for use internationally in the most hazardous of processes and environments.

New range of disc traps A

lthough widely acknowledged as being highly-versatile, thermodynamic disc traps are often prone to air binding, short service life and can result in costly steam loss. To overcome these issues, Cheltenham-based steam specialist TLV Euro Engineering has introduced its new PowerDyne disc traps, which are available in a full range of pressures from 0.3 to 260 barg (near atmospheric to super-critical). All PowerDyne disc traps feature replaceable modules to reduce maintenance costs by quickly enabling inline replacement of normal wear parts such as the valve disc and seat. They are also equipped with air-insulated caps to offer resistance to environmental effects and minimise unnecessary operation and steam loss. The use of bimetal air vent rings eliminate air binding and allow hardened sealing surfaces to be mirror polished, which results in a tight sealing that saves steam, even under severe superheat conditions. This bimetal air ring also helps to quickly and efficiently vent start-up air without binding, which helps to eliminate the need for manual blowdown. The four models in TLV’s PowerDyne P Series are available in either carbon steel or stainless steel construction; feature operating pressure ranges from 0.3 to 65 barg; a maximum operating temperature of 400°C and discharge capacities from 470 to 2,070 kg/h.

New Catalogue
new catalogue from enclosure specialist Schroff provides detailed information on the comprehensive range of industrial air conditioners and heat exchangers manufactured by McLean Cooling Technology, one of Schroff’s sister companies within the Pentair Technical Products Group. The 168-page Protective Cooling catalogue starts with a new product overview and brief company profile, followed by a section containing advice and guidelines on selecting the right cooling solution. There is also a handy quick-reference page to aid the selection process. Each individual air conditioner or heat exchanger is then described in detail, including key features, suitable applications, relevant industry standards,
full technical specifications and
performance curves. Products are illustrated by means of photographs and dimensioned line diagrams. The catalogue can be obtained by visiting
www.schroff.co.uk,
clicking on the ‘Catalogue
