Lawyer Life

JUNE 2012

The Swan

Lavenham is England’s most beautiful medieval village, full of half timbered buildings and packed with history, chic shops, boutiques and emporiums – a perfect base in the heart of rural Suffolk. nestled in the centre of this picture perfect slice of quintessential English life is the Swan, a beautiful and iconic 15th century hotel and restaurant which offers guests the ultimate escape for peace and quiet and relaxation – a perfect retreat from a busy modern life.

T

he Swan has recently undergone a two year refurbishment programme that has seen the elegant public areas and 45 bedrooms and suites completely revitalised, plus a new reception area and the opening of

a contemporary-style Brasserie which brings a new and informal dining experience to the hotel, which already has two AA rosettes for its fine cuisine.

Entering from Lavenham’s High Street through the ancient beamed front entrance, guests are warmly welcomed in the new reception area, and can then choose to visit one of the newly furnished lounges – the historic Airmen’s Bar, with its Second World War memorabilia, and the vaulted Gallery Restaurant, both of which have greatly benefitted from the facelift. The Brasserie is a sure delight, and features stylish oak furniture in a variety of finishes, while the floor combines the original exposed brickwork with new stripped oak. Styled by highly respected Chelsea-based interior designers, Todhunter Earle, the new lounges and Brasserie are themed with a combination of neutrals interspersed by bright, bold colours including peacock blue upholstery and acid yellow cushions.

The opening of the Brasserie now provides guests with an eclectic choice of dining experiences, reflected in the different menus.

Brasserie dishes are informal, yet beautifully presented, while the a la carte menu, served in the elegant AA two rosette Gallery Restaurant, takes on a degree of understated sophistication.

The Swan also has a long-established reputation for traditional English afternoon teas. Now served in the new lounges, the tea menu is being extended to incorporate a little finesse into one of England’s greatest pleasures.

This lovely hotel features plenty of pleasant features such as plump cushions, hidden courtyards and picture perfect gardens. Each of the 45 perfectly appointed rooms is delightfully different and with timber beams, views through leaded windows and stylish interiors, each one is as charming as they are comfortable. With enchanting period details and all the latest mod cons, the rooms are all unique and offer guests everything they will need, right at their fingertips.

For a perfect relaxing break away from the stresses and strains of modern life, look no further than The Swan at Lavenham, and experience all the best things of life in a traditional English village. LM
