dLa Piper partner Patrick Van Eecke speaks at European Parliament
DLA Piper partner, Prof Dr Patrick van Eecke, participated in the FOSI (Family Online Safety Institute) Brussels Forum 'Safety and Privacy in a Digital Europe - An International Perspective' at
Parliament on 15 May 2012.
Together with Lambert van Nistelrooij, Member of the European Parliament, and John Carr, Senior Expert Adviser to the United Nations
Telecommunication Union), he has been speaking in the panel 'An International Perspective: The Current Worldwide Regulatory Landscape'. Prof. Van Eecke set the scene by putting the European online
landscape in a global context. The discussion was focusing on several key topics,
parliamentary attitudes to online safety and privacy, the balance between regulation and self- regulation, and specific
industry and technology solutions to online safety and their implications for privacy. During his speech he developed the notion of a dual legal framework in Europe: offline versus online and he also commented on the implications of data protection in a global perspective.
the achievement follows the merger that created dac Beachcroft in 2011, which has given added strength to many of the firm's teams that combined with impressive client feedback to secure the new entries.
the four practice groups are now ranked as follows:
the dublin office is ranked in tier 4 in Insurance: dispute Resolution, with
chambers Europe stating: "active in dublin since 2009, this firm enters the rankings on the back of enthusiastic market feedback. a significant part of the practice is devoted to advising UK insurers active in Ireland on professional indemnity issues. other work includes medical malpractice and personal injury. the team represents several big-name clients, including catlin Insurance, W R Berkley and Markel International."
Madrid is ranked in tier 5 in dispute Resolution, Spain, stating:
"this newcomer to the rankings has impressed interviewees with its levels of expertise and client service. the 34-strong team is a top choice for a number of high-profile insurance companies, both Spanish and foreign. the lawyers handle product liability, energy and
litigation cases, as well as arbitration and alternative dispute resolution." Sources say:
satisfied with this team. It's one of the best when it comes to negotiations."
