Calling All 8th Graders

In addition to the annual Youth Tour for High School juniors, Ozarks also sponsors an Energy Camp each year for 8th grade students in Oklahoma. In 2011, two students from Stilwell attended, this year two students from your school could attend.

Top prize for these two Oklahoma students is the opportunity to attend Touchstone Energy Camp at Red Rock Canyon near Hinton, Oklahoma. The three day camp allows participants the opportunity to learn about energy and the service of electric co- ops in lots of fun ways.

Students are chosen on their scholastic achievement and involvement in school activities. Get ready - Ozarks is coming soon to a school near you.

Ozarks Electric will be holding the final CFL give-away on April 16th in our Westville office. Please bring in your electric bill and one old incandescent bulb and we will give you two new compact fluorescent lights (CFL’s)! The program has been a huge success and we hope you have noticed some of the small ways to lower your electric bill.

Efficient lighting - Highly efficient CFL’s make it easy for members to switch from incandescent bulbs. CFL’s are four times more efficient and last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs. More than 2.6 million CFL’s have been given to cooperative members.

Gross Receipts Benefit Local School Districts Education is extremely important to Ozarks Electric and we strongly support the school districts in our service territory. Besides

offering students the opportunity to meet students from other cooperatives and to learn first hand about the Cooperative form of business through Energy Camp and Youth Tour, Ozarks Electric awards one scholarship to a high school senior in each school in our service territory. We know that today’s students will be tomorrow’s leaders and we feel that it is important to do anything we can to enhance their educational experience.

Another way that Ozarks Electric supports Oklahoma area schools directly is through our gross receipts taxes. The Cooperative contributes two percent of its total gross receipts to each school determined by the miles of line in each school district. For the 2010-2011 school year Ozarks Electric paid $502,632 to 13 school districts in our four-county territory. This is just one more way we demonstrate the importance of the Cooperative principles of Education, Training and Information and Concern for Community.
