Climate Connections Sweepstakes pays off for couple, increases awareness of ground source unit benefi ts

By Sondra Boykin, WFEC

n interest in learning more about energy effi ciency and heating and cooling cost savings paid off for one northwest Oklahoma couple who is the grand prize winner of the Climate Connections Sweepstakes, presented by the Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives of Oklahoma. Wayne and Virginia Prewett, winners of the $10,000 Climate Connections Sweep- stakes, were honored recently during a re- ception hosted by Alfalfa Electric Coopera- tive (AEC) in Cherokee, Okla. The Prewetts have lived in the Burlington area most of their lives, and are currently engaged in farming and ranching along the Salt Fork River.

A

Participating Touchstone Energy Co- operatives in Oklahoma teamed up with ClimateMaster, a leading manufacturer of ground source heat pumps (GSHP), to cre- ate this valuable opportunity. Applicants

were required to schedule an appointment with an authorized ClimateMaster dealer in their area, which would then conduct a Five-Step Effi ciency Review. A proposal for the installation of a ground source system for their home would then be de- veloped and submitted. Among the inspec- tions made during this mandatory review were measuring attic insulation, checking weatherization and fi ltration needs and in- specting duct work.

After the review, an entry could then be completed and submitted. No purchase was necessary to enter the sweepstakes. The idea for the sweepstakes came about as a way to promote ground source as the most energy effi cient on the market, as well as involve distribution cooperatives. “As a Regional Partner for Touchstone Energy, Western Farmers Electric Coopera- tive’s (WFEC) involvement was two-fold,” explained Mark Faulkenberry, WFEC man- ager of marketing and communication.
