When visiting Orange’s Chinese factory back in October, managing director Damon Waller hinted towards a busy NAMM Show for the amp specialist and it’s good to see he’s stayed true to his word.

COMMENT BY ADAM SAVAGE

IT’S THAT time of year again, where we look back at the coming together of the world’s big (and small) manufacturers under one roof, where they finally lay their cards down on the table to reveal all the shiny new products they’ve been so tight lipped about in recent months. Yes that’s right, Winter NAMM has

been and gone, and although this issue of MIIPro went to press prior to the event, the quantity of pre-announcements and strong rumours flying around is a strong indication that NAMM 2012 was another belter of a show. As always, there were plenty of reasons to make the

Trans-Atlantic trip to Anaheim, as opposed to simply escaping the British weather for the best part of a week. When visiting Orange’s Chinese factory back in October, managing director Damon Waller hinted towards a busy NAMM Show for the amp specialist and looking at the firm’s new launches, it’s good to see he’s stayed true to his word.

DW adds new Black Nickel over Brass snares to its Collector’s series

Not only has this year’s event seen the introduction of a new signature head and cab from Slipknot guitarist Jim Root, there’s also the launch of the re-issued OR50H and the new Micro Terror – surely a sign that business is booming for the company. I also couldn’t help but notice a great deal of commotion

on Twitter, Facebook and other websites about Akai’s new MPC Renaissance (Page 59) and Studio music production controllers. With a look that is somehow both modern and retro, the Renaissance model brings together all the qualities of the previous members of the MPC family and the Studio is a compact system that can be carried around with ease. They’ve already created a stir from what I’ve seen so far, so Akai is quite right to feel confident about these new arrivals.

I could fill a whole magazine on the new gear that’s come out of Anaheim alone, but as that won’t be possible, make sure you keep checking the New Gear pages over the next couple months to make sure you haven’t missed any of the major newcomers to the market. adam.savage @intentmedia.co.uk
