INDUSTRY NEWS Where’s Watty? I
t has been a year since BSEE launched the first ‘Where’s Watty’ competition and since then this stealthy young badger has been travelling the UK, popping up in interesting places as he chats to people about how he can reduce his carbon pawprint. Each month, BSEE readers have written in to guess where he has been photographed and, since January 2011, 12 lucky winners have received a cuddly badger for correctly naming the places and cities that Watty has visited!
For those who have not yet made his acquaintance, Little Watty Baxter was the name chosen for the badger who appears on the Baxi-SenerTec UK logo. Short for Little Walter, it was thought that Little Watty reflects the emphasis of the business being represented, which is Combined Heat and Power (CHP), both of which have the unit ‘Watt’. What some may not know is that Dachs, the name of the mini-CHP unit that is marketed in the UK by Baxi- SenerTec UK, is the German word for badger!
Competition
In every issue, Little Watty Baxter will be sending in a new snap from his
travels and we will be asking you to work out where he is.
This month, Little Watty had an eye for a good view when he rode aboard a famous landmark to welcome in the New Year!
To be in with a chance of winning your very own cuddly Little Watty Baxter, simply look at the photograph and tell us – which famous landmark did Watty visit? Please email your answers to:
trushtonthorpe@datateam.co.uk
The winner will be chosen at random and will receive a cuddly badger. The closing date for this competition is 01 February 2012. You can also follow Little Watty on his Facebook page at

BEAMA announces new association
BEAMA has announced the launch of the Consumer Energy Display Industry Group (CEDIG), which took place at a reception at the House of Commons attended by the Minister for Energy and Climate Change, Charles Hendry.
Energy displays have proven highly successful in helping consumers to reduce electricity consumption and will play a significant role in the context of the UK’s national Smart Meter programme. The recently published Empower Demand report from VaasaETT, Global Energy Think Tank compared the results of trials around the world and found average annual electricity savings of 8.68% for customers supplied with IHD’s.
Collect information
Consumer energy displays include a range of devices and services, such as In Home Displays (IHDs), real-time online user interfaces (UIs) and Smartphone
applications. The purpose of all of these is to collect accurate, real time information on the customer’s energy usage, and feed this back to the customer while helping them understand their usage and how they can better manage it.
Speaking at the launch, BEAMA’s Association Director for CEDIG, John Parsons, said: “The Consumer Energy Display Industry Group is the voice of the UK consumer energy information display industry. CEDIG’s purpose is to maximise the opportunity and choice for consumers in gaining visibility and insight into their energy use.
Consumer energy displays represent a new industry, and CEDIG will be active in promoting the technology, working with stakeholders to develop the arrangements needed to provide the displays with data. CEDIG will provide expert knowledge and feedback to Government, utilities, consumers and standardisation bodies.”
