INSTALLATION NEWS
HygroMatik’s C22 and C10 Comfort Plus DS, CompactLine Steam Bath Generators have been fitted within The Spa, a luxurious and traditional Moroccan spa situated in the heart of Dolphin Square in London. The Spa aspires to capture the very essence of Morocco by offering authentic Moroccan cleansing and purifying treatments. The C22 CompactLine steam generator was installed in the lavish Moroccan Hammam. The humidifier increases the temperature from approximately 25° to 45°C. The generated steam and water removes any dead skin while the Telak applies traditional cleansing soap to provide a deep-cleansing and nourishing skin treatment.
Exceptional results
HygroMatik’s C10 CPDS provides the steam for the exotic two seated Rhassoul. The treatment consists of a purifying and detoxifying ritual using lava clay, specially imported from the Moroccan mountains for its unique ability to remove toxins and impurities. HygroMatik’s superior steam perfectly complements the Moroccan clay to achieve exceptional results.
The C17 CPDS was installed to feed the luxurious salt steam room. The room has a large backlight onyx slab installed in the rear wall which stands out in the beautifully tiled cabin.

Morocco in the Heart of London Two new academies for Bedfordshire
M&E specialist, Kershaw Mechanical Services, is installing full building services at two new academies for Central Bedfordshire Council, in partnership with the main contractor, Willmott Dixon Construction.
All Saints Academy, Dunstable, with an M&E value of £3m, will provide places for around 740 students, aged 11 to 18 years old while the larger Bedford Academy will provide places for around 1,440 students. Both academies will replace existing buildings and are designed around a central hub providing a circular reception atrium.
installed the luxurious Moroccan Spa and specified HygroMatik’s equipment for the Hammam, the Rhassoul and the Salt Infused Steam Room. Richard Gowland, the Director of Rigo Spa states: “I have always used HygroMatik equipment. Every part is interchangeable and it has one of the lowest running costs for the end user on the market. We are very pleased with the results.” Work began on site to create the luxurious Moroccan spa mid-way through 2011 and it was completed in November. The Spa is unique to London, as it is the only spa that combines authentic Moroccan Hammam, Rhassoul and Salt Infused Steam Rituals.
Sustainable design
Energy efficiency and environmental impact are key aspects of the build programmes,
reflected in the M&E remit which includes under-floor heating, natural ventilation via auto operable windows with temperature sensors, fully controlled intelligent lighting systems and ground source heat pump technology.
All Saints Academy will also
benefit from a roof mounted photovoltaic array totalling 100sq m.
Ian Greenstock, Sales Director said: “These academies will be light, open, naturally ventilated spaces designed to stimulate learning, where both students and teachers will feel happy to come each day. “Kershaw are delighted to have been selected as a partner by Willmott Dixon Construction to undertake the two new foundation academies in Bedfordshire, which will enhance our already considerable education portfolio.”
Planning granted for Winchester University
A sustainable new 2,200sq m teaching space at the University of Winchester has been granted planning consent. Enabling work has already commenced for a new Learning & Teaching Building at the King Alfred Campus, which was partially designed by engineering consultants Grontmij as part of an overall master plan for development at the University. The highly collaborative scheme was led by Design Engine Architects supported by Grontmij and Heyne Tillett Steel, to create a sustainable and innovative building that embraces the high design quality seen throughout the University’s recent development.
Grontmij applied its knowledge from previous work on the naturally ventilated
Performing Arts Building and similar successful projects at other university campuses to develop a design for optimised, comfortable and low energy teaching space.
Sustainable design
Thermal modelling has led to a solution incorporating optimised insulation and thermal mass, in slab temperature moderation, natural daylight with glare control and an automatically controlled ventilation system with thermal chimneys. The sustainable design combines to generate a building that will achieve a minimum of BREEAM Excellent. The passive building design will be enhanced for times of extreme temperature
or use by ventilation, cooling and heating system fed from a high efficiency air source pump that absorbs heat from outside and transfers it into the thermal systems throughout the eight studios in the building.
Early involvement of contracting organisation Geoffrey Osborne Ltd has led to a coordinated solution at the planning stage that has buildability and value engineering built in and not bolted on.
Innovative approach
Richard Beer, Senior Design Engineer at Grontmij, said: “Grontmij’s thermal modelling and design for the university scheme showcases an innovative and collaborative approach to ventilation,
cooling and heating systems that will result in the Learning & Teaching Building being both economically and environmentally sustainable.”
Richard Jobson, Director from Design Engine, said: “In these difficult economic times we are delighted to be working on our fourth major building with the University of Winchester which continues to see the long term benefits of embracing design quality in commissioning new buildings.” Three buildings on the campus have already been developed as part of the University of Winchester’s overall master plan and work has commenced on the Learning & Teaching Building with a view for completion in time for the start of the 2012 academic year.
