Cobo Center to receive $221 million reinvention | Detroit, MI

Metro Detroit’s regional convention facility, the Cobo Center

& Exhibition Center, will be receiving a major renovation with the addition of a 40,000 sq. ft. ballroom with support- ing meeting and pre-function spaces. The Cobo Center upgrade includes a three-story glass atrium that links the main fl oor of the venue to

the new entrance facing the Detroit River. A high-tech “media mesh” will be added to the property and function

as a giant digital signboard to welcome conventions and guests to Detroit and the new Cobo Center. Reconfi guration of the meeting and breakout rooms on

the property are the fi nal area of the renovation project. The majority of the exterior walls of rooms along the river will be replaced by high-effi ciency glass walls to take advantage of the riverside location and Detroit skyline. Cobo is unique in its physical link to all downtown Detroit hotels and entertainment districts by the Detroit People Mover, the only elevated railway system of its kind in the United States.
