RYA courses help you get the best from your boat and the most enjoyment from your time afloat. The courses break down essential skills into flexible, user-friendly courses suited

to whatever type of boating you want to do. Whether you want more experience afloat, or need to concentrate on your navigation skills, there is something for you. We also offer training in specialist areas such as radar, sea survival and diesel engines, to broaden your knowledge and prepare you for all eventualities at sea. This brochure covers our programme of practical courses that you

take on the water. You can join the programme at any stage according to your experience. To help you choose, a rundown of what’s covered on each course is shown on pages 4 and 5.

WHO’S WHO AT THE RYA?

WHY CHOOSE THE RYA? Taking a course at one of our recognised training centres means you are part of a programme that is known and respected worldwide. Our centres guide you through your course using our standard syllabus and qualified instructors. Their boats have been checked as being seaworthy, safe, well maintained and suitable for the courses, and each centre is inspected regularly to ensure it is maintaining our high standards and those of the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA). At the end of the course, successful students receive an RYA

certificate as a record of their achievements, some of which count towards other statutory and internationally recognised qualifications.

All centres listed in this brochure are recognised by the RYA at the time of going to print. If you are researching centres elsewhere, always look for the tickmark logo. If in doubt, call us to check if a centre is recognised. A full and up to date list is also available on www.rya.org.uk

FLEXIBILITY Our courses are adaptable to your needs. The introductory Start Yachting and Helmsman’s courses are just two days, with the higher level courses being four or five days. Many centres offer various options such as a series of weekends. You will be on the boat with your instructor and up to four or

five other students. If you have your own boat or a group of people wanting the same training, you could arrange for an instructor to come to you and run the course at a venue to suit. Talk to a training centre to find out how they can help you learn in a way that suits you best.
