The story so far… P
eople ask ‘where has the time gone?’ It is often the case that we are just too busy to notice. But when I think back to when we (Paul Clark, Jason Godefroy and I) first opened the door of an office above Menzies Chartered Accountants in Staines, almost 10 years ago, I really do mean ‘where has the time gone?’ You will need to indulge me with a bit of reminiscing to start the story of how we developed from there to MCR with a national footprint of offices in London, Manchester and Birmingham; with capability extending to 180 staff and 21 partners and directors, not to mention a range of service lines that have been developed to meet the needs of our clients in the ABL sector.
The beginning… Back in 2001 I remember speaking with Bob Lefroy about plans for our new business venture and Business Money provided us with the opportunity to broadcast our message to the key players within the factoring and discounting market. Our motivation for the business and our core values are as strong today as they were in 2001. We set out to provide a rapid response and at the same time remain completely accessible to our clients, but we believe that it’s also important to be fun and friendly into the bargain. Some 10 years on and feedback on how we are regarded from the now ABL sector has been extremely encouraging. We were delighted to be awarded the No 1 provider of administration services to the industry for the last three consecutive years.
MCR’s growth mirrors ABL market Importantly, MCR has grown with and alongside the ABL market and mirrored its development over the last 10 years. By listening to our clients we have introduced significant service lines that add real value to the growth of client relationships and provide reassurance when managing risk, such as our receivables management team who
can be deployed immediately to provide on site support and our finance brokers team, who search for new business opportunities, to ensure that our ABL clients maximise their potential in what is now a highly competitive market. In our world it’s about turning challenges
into opportunities and of course there are some challenges that you would not want to see regularly repeated, such as the most complex of frauds and collect outs, but that’s what we do when needed. We are also proud to have sponsored the ABFA conferences in Paris, Venice (sorry about the lift!) and Rome. We provide regular training to delegates of the ABFA day courses and to clients directly in order to build competency and experience within the industry and have seconded staff to clients.
MCR’s development The development of MCR could only be possible with a little bit of luck and by recruiting and retaining the best people who share our core values and never stop looking for ways to contribute. An example of how we have shaped our service lines is our business consulting division that regularly have to think like an entrepreneur as this service is as much about helping organisations survive business challenges as it is about protecting the ABL clients from sudden shocks that if uncontrolled could be financially uncomfortable. Most recently we have been pleased with the positive support to the opening of our Birmingham office, headed by John Whitfield and ably assisted by Matt Ingram and Julia Bennett.
I am delighted to announce that we recently won Mid-Sized Corporate Restructuring Firm of the Year 2010. This is a great achievement for MCR and all our staff. We look forward to seeing some of you at the ABFA conference in London in December, and would like to thank all of our clients for the past 10 years support and hopefully the next 10 years! I’m also hoping that Arsenal will win a cup in the next 10 years!
