Summer is here and that can only mean one thing. Heat! You may feel some heat coming off this issue. We are excited to announce that Dallas Style & Design is now an Industry Partner of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers), and we are publishing the 2017 Design Ovation Awards. These amazing design projects are as hot as they come, and so are the designers and firms that completed the work. In future issues look in our feature stories for complete coverage of some of these incredible interiors. We are also happy to publish the list of winners of the 2017 Texas Chapter of ASID Dallas
Design Community’s 5th Annual Designers’ Choice Awards. You can learn more about two winners, FiberSeal and Bonick Landscaping, in our Design articles, and next issue we will be turning our focus on another winner, Antique Drapery Rod Co. You may also notice the name of one of our long-time DS&D partners, McGannon Showrooms.
Congratulations to all of the winners in both events. Speaking of superior design work, we feature four amazing homes in this issue. Interior designers Traci Connell and Faye Nielsen each have created stunning homes that we could
not properly contain in just 10 pages, so we broke the mold— just as they have individually done with their design work— and expanded the articles. Then, we look at the work of
Andrew Caubarreaux IV, AIA, whose renovation of a home in historic Kessler Park opens up a conversation about preserva- tion, while he opened the home to the outdoors by creating walls of glazing in many rooms. In another historic home reno- vation, builders Integrity Custom modernized a 1925 bungalow into a contemporary guesthouse with a farmhouse feel. We haven’t forgotten art. Coming off our expanded
spring Arts Issue, we showcase some of Dallas’ hottest galleries and artists, including Beaudry Gallery, William Campbell Contemporary, Art on the Boulevard, Bishop Arts Modern, Craighead Green, Amy McKenzie, Calina Mishay and Tom Hoitsma. Circling back to ASID, I was lucky to have some time with Debra Stewart, current chair- person of the local chapter, as she prepared for the amazing event ASID hosted for the Design Ovation Awards. She is the focus of our question and answer profile, and we discuss the benefits of ASID member- ship for designers as well as the benefits for clients who use those designers. She dispels some misconceptions people have about working with interior designers and makes clear the benefits of working with an accredited professional. Finally, I was invited to
preview the new addition of the World Trade Center for a peek at what showrooms the trade will have access to for their clients. The extraordinary team of Michael Bauer, Emma Miller, Nikki Darling and Arielle Mandell were a pleasure to work with as they shared with me the history and future of Dallas’ premier design resource. So, as you prepare for sum- mer vacations, or maybe just a simple staycation poolside, keep this copy of DS&D close by. It is filled with wonderful stories that will inspire you for your future home projects, and with additional pages to hold all of the content, it can be used as a thick fan to keep you cool.
