Portrait artist Deborah Allison combines bold strokes of color to frame sensitive faces. Strength is a brilliant example of painterly movement surround- ing the strength of the figure. Red Hat illustrates the versatility that Allison brings to both her paintings and to her classes in portraiture.
Painter Pamela Blaies has taken a delightful new path this year, placing brushstrokes of reflective light into her portraits. Instead of light gleaming off silver and glass, as in her still life settings, Pensive shows quick flashes of light-filled color. Precious is a young study in her soft-edged style. Two Women is a bold depar-
ture from the bronze sculpture that Michael Pavlovsky is known for. He is also a painter who enjoys a palette that reflects a tropical pattern, with combina- tions of stylized components set against a backdrop of mountains and ocean villas. What were once portraits in metal and clay have now have taken on a color- ful, vibrant new life on canvas. So many of our gallery artists
who are typically known for landscapes, still life or sculpture have recently taken a turn to- ward portraiture. This new work adds a vibrant new “look” to the gallery.
