EXCHANGE NEWS | About Our Customer 7TH Dyess AFB, Texas Bomb Wing


Established in 1918, the 7th Bomb Wing, formerly the 1st Army Observation Group, was


one of


the 15 original combat air groups formed before World War II.


In 1965, the 7th Bomb Wing deployed its forces to Guam’s Andersen AFB to support combat operations in Southeast Asia. B-52s flew more than 1,300 missions over Vietnam during the Vietnam War.


Based at Carswell AFB, Texas, until 1993, the 7th Bomb Wing moved to Dyess AFB, Texas and began flying the B-1.


Six B-17s from the 7th Bomb Wing were preparing to land in Hawaii when the Japanese attacked. The 7th was later based in India for the rest of WWII.


During the late 1950s and early 1960s, the wing’s primary mission was training in global strategic bombardment and air-refueling operations.

One of only two B-1B wings in the Air Force, the other being Ellsworth AFB’s 28th Bomb Wing. The 7th is responsible for all B-1 training.
