Hardy, fi eld-grown plants grown exclusively for Shumway’s. Safe arrival guaranteed. We begin shipment Feb. 1 and ship through June 1. Your plants will arrive at the proper planting time. Each bunch contains 50 to 75 plants, depending on the size of the plants. One bunch plants about 20 ft. of row. Onion sets are easy to plant and are quick to harvest. Our sets yield tender, green onions or early mature ones, about a month earlier than seed. One pint of onion sets or one pint of shallots plants 25 to 30 ft. ONION SET shallots.


What are shallots? Shallots are a cross between an onion and garlic. Their delicate, mild onion fl avor is perfect for French dishes. Shallots look like on- ion sets and are grown in the same way.


04597 HOLLAND RED. An unusual variety with excellent fl avor. Just the thing for delicate sauces, cream soups and stews. Plump bulbs are fl at-rounded shape with coppery-red outer skin that peels easily. Purple tinged white fl esh has spicy, rich fl avor, yet it is mild when cooked. Stores well.
