GOOD FIELD CORN Q Shumway’s Seed Corn For Ensilage or Grain.

includes both open-pollinated varieties, proving their worth by passing the test of time, and hybrid varieties, for increased vigor and grain yield.

09925 HYBRID XTRA EARLY 330. The earliest fi eld corn we offer, maturing in only 80 to 95 days. Xtra Early 330 is ideal for the Dakotas, Minneso- ta, Wisconsin, Michigan, upstate New York and all parts of New England. Despite its earliness, the ears are of medium size on a stalk that ranges from medium to medium-short. Yields are excellent for this maturity. We recommend Xtra Early 330 for grain production only. Other varieties we of- fer are better for ensilage. Seedling vigor is exceptional; plant at a population of 22-25M for best results. Increas- ingly becoming the variety of choice for late no-till. Seed is treated to enhance early emergence. Our best early va- riety for the extreme North, not recommended south of Interstate-80. A yellow type with very good root strength and dry down. A full bag contains 80M kernels and weighs about 50 lb.

09908 HYBRID GOLIATH SILO. Our only hybrid silo corn is almost as tall as open-pollinated Goliath, but is a little earlier and provides a much greater grain yield. Grows 12 to 14 ft. high, about a foot shorter than open-pollinated Goliath. However, Hybrid Goliath matures about fi ve days earlier and yields around 127 to 175 bushels of grain per acre – nearly twice the yield of open-pollinated Goliath. While open-pollinated Goliath is a white corn, Hybrid Goliath is a yellow type with excellent dry-down and picker ratings, larger ears and a reduced susceptibility to lodging. More versatile, withstanding plantings up to a plant population of 26,000. A medium late variety maturing in 105-115 days. Seed is untreated. A full bag contains 65-75M kernels and weighs about 50 lb.
