“If we change the

complexion of the game, we change the perception of the game.”

— EBONI PRESTON-LAURENT, US LACROSSE SENIOR MANAGER OF DIVERSITY AND INCLUSION, AS QUOTED IN A MARCH 24 ARTICLE BY THE ORLANDO SENTINEL ON BRINGING THE SPORT TO MINORITY COMMUNITIES

INJURIES DOWN BY PAUL OHANIAN

Injury rates among NCAA men’s lacrosse players appear to be on a downward trajectory, according to a study comparing data from 2009- 2015 to previously published works. Dr. Shane Caswell and Dr. Andrew Lincoln of the US Lacrosse Sports Science and Safety Committee were among the researchers. From 2009-2015, the rate of injuries resulting in playing time lost was 6.43 per 1,000 athlete exposures, compared to the 12.58/1,000 fi gure reported from 1988-2004. Researchers said the decrease in

injury rates might be associated with several factors, including equipment advances and rule changes. Injury prevention programs were also cited.
