We are all well aware of the “SportsCenter” Top 10-worthy tricks shots put on display by players like the Thompson brothers and Stony Brook’s Kylie Ohlmiller. Georgia Swarm forward Miles Thompson made the #SCTop10 for a behind-the-back goal on Feb. 4 and Ohlmiller entered the Top 10 with a between-the-legs goal on Feb. 21 and appeared again on March 27 with a behind-the-back pass to her sister, Taryn, for a behind-the-back score.


Also making highlight reels were North Carolina’s Sammy Jo Tracy, who scored a between-the-legs goal against Northwestern on March 19, Syracuse’s Brendan Bomberry with a behind-the-back fi nish on Feb. 11 and Colgate goalie Brandon Burke scoring from 60 yards out against Cornell on March 22. Also subject to replay was a controversial goal by Northwestern’s Sheila Nesselbush on March 30 — a game-tying snipe as the clock hit 0.0 against Johns Hopkins. Replays showed the ball was in Nesselbush’s stick when time expired, prompting a protest fi led by Blue Jays coach Janine Tucker.

Is 2017 the year of the freshman? On the men’s side, U.S. U19 team members Michael Sowers (Princeton), Dox Aitken (Virginia), Mac O’Keefe (Penn State), Jared Bernhardt (Maryland) and Gerard Arceri (Penn State) are on fi re. O’Keefe and Sowers were second and third in the nation in goals and points, respectively, and Arceri was fourth in faceoff percentage at press time. Ethan Walker (Denver), Michael Kraus (Virginia) and TD Irelan (Albany) also have made big debuts. On the women’s side, Taryn Ohlmiller (Stony Brook), 2015 U.S. U19 teamers Tess D’Orsi (Princeton) and Kerrigan Miller (USC), and Jill Rizzo (Ohio State) and Kali Hartshorn (Maryland), also are standout freshmen.
