+4 3URÀOH ³ 0ROO\H 3HWHUV I am the marketing manager at U.S. Fig-

ure Skating. I manage the U.S. Figure Skating brand and develop and implement event marketing strategies to help increase visibil- ity of figure skating with current and poten- tial fans. What is your favorite part about your

job (so far)? Working 2016 Progressive Skate America has been my favorite experience so far. I love meeting fans and seeing their excitement for the sport. It was also my first figure skating event. I was able to learn a lot about the sport and see why fans love figure skating so much. What do you like to do in your spare

time? I like to sing, cook, watch TV and mov- ies, and practice French. I also enjoy explor- ing new places and traveling as often as pos- sible, especially to visit my best friends, who live all over the country. What would people be surprised to

know about you? One of my childhood dreams was to be a famous singer. I audi- tioned for “Star Search” and competed in a national talent search when I was a teenager. These were great experiences but they made me realize the music industry was not for

me. I still love performing and doing karaoke whenever I get the chance. What would be your ideal vacation?

Backpacking across the world. In the sum- mer of 2015 I backpacked through 15 cities in France by myself. I want to do that in as many countries as possible. I love learning new languages, learning about the different cultures around the world, and eating all of the wonderful food that comes with travel- ing to new places. Tell us a little bit about your family.

I was born and raised in Chicago, which is where my parents met. My mom works for a prominent restaurant company in the city, and my dad has been a stay-at-home dad most of my life. I have three sisters. One of my sisters has learning disabilities and every- thing I do, I do for her. She is my inspiration. My grandma is also a big part of my life. She is 93 years old and is still a spunky, carefree woman. I hope to be like her when I’m 93.

Team USA sweeps USOC honors

For the first time, U.S. Figure Skating

swept the United States Olympic Commit- tee’s (USOC) “Best of” October honors, thanks to its record performance at 2016 Progres- sive Skate America in Chicago. Ashley Wagner and the ice dance team

of Maia and Alex Shibutani earned gold med- als, while Jason Brown skated to silver at the event, which was held in the Chicago sub- urb of Hoffman Estates, Illinois. This group led Team USA to a record seven medals at a Grand Prix Series event, and they were hon- ored by the USOC and its awards-presenting sponsor Dow. The last time Team USA swept the “Best

of” honors was in 1998 when Todd Eldredge and Michelle Kwan earned recognition, but there was no team category at that time. Each national governing body (NGB)

may nominate one female, one male and one team per discipline. An internal nominating committee selects five nominees from both the male and female categories, and three from the team category to advance to the voting round. Votes received from NGB rep- resentatives and select members of the me- dia account for 50 percent of the final tally, with the other half determined by online fan voting via TeamUSA.org/Awards.
