Boitano talks BBQ, U.S. Championships in K.C. Olympic champion and celebrity chef
Brian Boitano visited Kansas City in late Oc- tober to promote the 2017 Prudential U.S. Figure Skating Championships and as a spe- cial guest of the American Royal World Series of BBQ, the largest barbecue competition in the world. Boitano’s weekend started in the class-
room. Literally. In order to judge the World Series of BBQ Invitational, Boitano spent four hours in a classroom to become a certified barbecue judge. He then spent the after- noon making pork loin and Wagyu steak in the celebrity cook-off, where he teamed with Jason Day of Bacon Explosion fame and Denny Antel, a barbecue cook from Amarillo, Tex- as. While Boitano and his pit masters didn’t win, they still served up some tasty treats. In addition, Boitano did many media interviews and a cooking demo on the TV sta-
tion KSHB to talk U.S. Championships and his love of food — and to relive his memories of winning his first U.S. title in Kansas City in 1985. To say he can’t believe 32 years have passed since that moment is an understatement, he said. Boitano’s weekend concluded with eating lots of barbecue, naturally — as he judged
some of the 170 invitational entries — and a meet-and-greet with World Series of BBQ competitors and guests.

U.S. Figure Skating launches ‘The Scott Hamilton Show’
U.S. Figure Skating announced in October the debut of “The Scott Hamilton Show,” a
digital series that airs each Thursday on icenetwork, hosted by 1984 Olympic champion Scott Hamilton. The free series features weekly episodes throughout the fall, with a video podcast of
the show available for download on iTunes. Segments of the show are also available on social media. “There’s so much going on in the world and on the ice, and this is a great opportunity
to discuss the things people are talking about,” Hamilton said. “I’m excited to share my experience and give skating fans a unique look at the human side of the sport.” Each week Hamilton speaks with special guests, including figure skating’s legends,
current members of Team USA, coaches and others, and discusses relevant topics in and out of the skating world. The show also features segments answering fans’ questions, current skating results,
trends in the sport and key upcoming events. Use #AskScottHamilton to submit your questions and visit
icenetwork.com to watch episodes of “The Scott Hamilton Show” on demand.
