Allison Scott of Colorado Springs, Colorado For 15 years, Friends of Figure Skating
(FOFS) has supported skaters of all ages, from rising stars to Team USA. Through their membership, Friends receive benefits such as a subscription to SKATING, tickets to the FOFS breakfasts at Skate America and the U.S. Championships, U.S. Figure Skating ap- parel and much more. In this issue, we focus on Friends and share the story of one of our generous donors. Allison Scott has a different perspective
on U.S. Figure Skating than most Friends. She is the mother of four-time U.S. men’s champi- on Jeremy Abbott. Scott was a skater herself at a young age, taking her first steps on the ice when she was just 3 years old at Rockefeller Center in New York City, where she grew up. She later moved to Aspen, Colorado, where she lived for 30 years and became president of the Aspen Skating Club. Her passion and love for the sport helped Abbott catch on quickly, taking to the ice at the age of 2. When the family moved to Colorado Springs to help further Abbott’s career, Scott became a full- blown skating mom. “It’s not for the faint of heart, but it’s all
about your child,” Scott said. “I want to sup- port that dream.” The rest is history. Scott watched Abbott
win four U.S. titles in addition to making two U.S. Olympic Teams. Now the director of com- munications at the world-famous Broadmoor Hotel, Scott still graciously gives her time as a valued volunteer for U.S. Figure Skating and is a longtime Friends of Figure Skating member. She also enjoys writing, and shares many of her memories as a skating mom and figure skating fan on her blog. Visit

where she has garnered a worldwide follow- ing.
SKATING: What made you want to be a
Friend of Figure Skating? Scott: Friends of Figure Skating is a
way to be a global friend of the sport. I’ve met many different people from all over as a Friend and many of them I am still very close with.
SKATING: What is your favorite figure
skating moment? Scott: Seeing Jeremy at the U.S. Champi-
onships in 2014 in Boston (where he won) and also his free skate in Sochi at the 2014 Winter Olympics. I knew what that took; it took a ton of guts. It was something I’ll never forget.

SKATING: What is your favorite perk/bene- fit of being a Friend? Scott: Going to events and meeting the
other fans and Friends who are behind Twit- ter handles and Facebook posts. I call those fans I’ve met and have become friends with “Frands” and there are many of them. SKATING: Who is your favorite skater of all time and why? Scott: (Other than Jeremy) John Curry
because of his class and Scott Hamilton, Kurt Browning and Robin Cousins because of their athleticism and the fun they had skating. To join Friends of Figure Skating, visit
