Frank W. Considine (PhB ’43), life trustee and former chair of the board of trustees, died August 2 at age 94. Considine had a rich history with Loyola, earning his bachelor of philosophy (PhB) from the University and later becom- ing the third lay chair of the board of trustees, serving under the tenures of presidents Raymond C. Baumhart, S.J., and John J. Piderit, S.J. During Considine’s time of
service, infrastructure projects took place at the Lake Shore and Water Tower campuses, the number of full-time faculty members doubled, and more than 30 endowed chairs were created, one of which bears his name. He was also chairman of the board of directors of the Loyola University Health System. A Chicago native, Considine served in the U.S. Navy during World
War II before becoming a successful executive and a member of the Chicago Business Hall of Fame. He was also active on numerous civic committees and boards, serving as a leader in efforts to expand O'Hare International Airport and to realign Lake Shore Drive. As tokens of appreciation for his generosity and dedication to the University, Considine received an honorary Doctor of Laws degree in 1986 and the Sword of Loyola in 1987.
Joseph C. Scully (BS ’62, MBA ’72), a Life Trustee, passed away at age 76 on October 15. A Detroit native, Scully became an active member of the Loyola community and a longtime supporter of the University. He served on the board of trustees from 1984 to 1998 and was named a Life Trustee in 2005. Scully was committed to supporting Loyola students through scholarships, including recently helping to provide scholarships to students of Arrupe College. Scully served for many years as president and CEO of St. Paul Fed-
eral Savings Bank and was a staunch advocate of fair housing practices in Chicago and Oak Park. He also served in leadership positions on numerous community boards including Link Unlimited, the Austin Career Education Center, and the Oak Park Housing Center. He is survived by his wife, Judith Scully, RN, PhD (BSN ’62), a graduate of the Marcella Niehoff School of Nursing who also served on Loyola’s Board of Trustees from 2006 to 2015.
