this winter of university presidents from across the city, which resulted in the creation of America’s Urban Campus (AUC). Interim President John P. Pelissero, PhD, signed a commitment for Loyola to be one of the founding members of the
consortium of 22 nonprofit colleges and universities in Chicago. The idea to form AUC stemmed
from a study that revealed Chicago to be one of the largest college towns in the U.S., with more than 225,000 students hailing from every state in the country and more than 150 na- tions around the globe. The member institutions, which include DePaul, Northwestern, the University of Chi- cago, the University of Illinois at Chi- cago, and 18 others, are credited with generating more than $10.8 billion back into the economy of Chicago and providing more than 46,000 jobs to Chicago residents—accounting for 4 percent of the overall Chicago workforce.
