ALUMNI VOICES
Study habits: There are plenty of great places at and around Loyola to study. Some alumni favorites include, clockwise from top left; Corboy Law Center’s library, Mundelein Center’s greenhouse, the lakefront next to Madonna della Strada, the Information Commons, Metropolis Coffee, and Schreiber Center.
STATUS UPDATE Where was your favorite study spot on campus?
At the Lake Shore Campus in the Mundelein Center on
the 7th floor in the greenhouse/ glass room. It’s quiet, not many people really go there, and the view of the lake is AMAZING. — Margaret Burda (JFRC Spring ’11, BA ’12, BS ’12)
Crown had amazing views. Wolf & Kettle was a nice
spot at WTC to drink coffee, study, and socialize—closed end of my freshman year though. —Patricia Nicandro (BA ’04) @PNIC1013
I always switched between Cudahy Library and
Metropolis Coffee . . . the quiet zen of the library or the buzz of coffee chatter. —Heather El- Khoury (BA ’07) @heatherelk
The Jesuit Residence lawn. It was a space so unique to
Loyola Chicago, sad it’s gone. —Abigail Ries (BA ’08)
Outside, the circle between Madonna della Strada and
the lake. Inside, the art museum when it was still in Cudahy
Library. No disturbance, and piped in classical music. —Brian Jula (BS ’99)
Echo Chamber to “pretend study while socializing” but
the stacks for real studying. —Deb Schmidt-Rogers (BS ’81, MEd ’86) @DSchmidtRogers
This might sound odd, but I loved studying in the
vending machine room at the Crown Center for the Humanities. Quick access to snacks and Diet Cokes, absolutely no one else
wanted to be there with me so it was pretty quiet, I could take over two tables with my stuff, and I could hop up to visit the lake and soak in the peacefulness whenever I wanted. Perfection! —Alyx Kesselring (BA ’05, MA ’10)
At the Terry Student Center, but towards the
end I really liked the brand new facilities at the just finished Schreiber Center. —Carlos Filipe Lombizani (MS ’15)
