Board Approves Change in Annual Meeting Location Board approves motion to move CEC Annual Meeting to McCurtain County Fairgrounds in Idabel

I

t's official —the Choctaw Electric Annual Meeting will be held in Idabel this year. The decision follows

discussion and vote by the Choctaw Electric Cooperative (CEC) board of trustees at their January board meeting.

The CEC Annual Meeting has been held at the Choctaw Country Fairgrounds in Hugo for many years. The board hopes the new venue at the McCurtain County Fairgrounds will make the meeting more accessible to members in the southeastern reaches of CEC service territory.

The change in location will not affect the content or schedule of the meeting. Members will still enjoy free refreshments, prizes, and entertainment, and elections and other co-op business will take place according to bylaws.

CEC will continue to offer free booth space for vendors, however, the change in venue will require a change in the layout of vendor displays. This year, members will find vendor booths located in a separate building at the McCurtain County Fairgrounds.

The CEC Annual Meeting will be held in another building within fairgrounds complex.

For heat sensitive members, the new venue will offer a distinct advantage—air conditioning. "Considering how hot it was last year, the cooler surrounds should make

a lot of people happy," said Jia Johnson, CEC director of member and public relations and coordinator of the meeting.

Johnson said co-op employees will be working hard to ensure the transition goes as smoothly as possible. "With a big event like this, any change in location is going to require a few adjustments," she said.

For example, crowd flow at registration tables, concession stands and public bathrooms may be different. Also, members with mobility issues should be aware that the parking area is not paved. For members needing assistance, golf cart shuttles will be available to deliver them to and from the meeting area.
