IN A WORLD WITHOUT CASTINGS Would Homes Be As Safe?

For window locks, diecast zinc is the material of choice for many reasons. It’s one thing to simply close your

windows to keep intruders out. It’s another thing to lock them, and cast components keep your windows se- curely fastened. Modern windows have settled into using a lock with a so-called “cam” design because it can seal air and also maintain security. For manufacturers like Deco Products (Decorah, Iowa), diecast zinc is the material of choice for many reasons. Diecast zinc lends itself to high-

speed production to keep costs down, it’s strong enough to protect against forced entry and also impacts caused by hurricanes and tornadoes, finishes well with powder-coat and decorative plate and resists corrosion. Zinc has the right heft. For Deco, the average dimensions of the locks are 2.75 X 1 X .5 in.
