AFS Encourages Metalcasters to Join Manufacturing Day Manufacturers across the U.S. will be hosting and spon-

soring events to promote the country’s manufacturing in- dustry with the fourth annual Manufacturing Day on Friday, October 2. As a national sponsor, AFS encourages metalcast- ing businesses to become involved by hosting, attending or providing resources for an event. Events can include facility tours, short workshops for area

youth, or classroom demonstrations. Heading into Manufac- turing Day’s fourth year, over 1,000 companies have hosted events in 48 states since 2012. More than 30,000 students have participated in a Manufacturing Day event. T is year’s celebration will feature open houses, public tours, career workshops and other activities to increase public awareness of modern manufacturing. As a sponsor, AFS is hosting its own open house and

Foundry in a Box demonstration at its headquarters in Schaumburg, Ill. At AFS, attendees will have the chance to learn about manufacturing metal castings, discover career opportunities in the industry and even make their own casting to take home. “Manufacturing Day is a tremendous opportunity to

showcase the metalcasting industry to the next generation,” said AFS CEO Jerry Call. A toolkit to help plan a Manufacturing Day event is also available at www.mfgday.com. T e toolkit includes resources on event formats, audiences and tips for success.

AFS Exhibiting at Women in

Manufacturing Summit AFS will be displaying metalcasting’s role in STEM

(science, technology, engineering and mathematics) ca- reers at the Women in Manufacturing Summit Septem- ber 23-25 in Minneapolis. The Society’s presence at the event, which is geared to women with careers in manu- facturing, will showcase the capabilities of metalcasting, outreach efforts to students, and professional opportuni- ties within the industry. The national event brings together women from across the country with the purpose of continued support to the attraction, retention and advancement of women in the manufacturing industry. AFS’ participation will establish metalcasting as a rewarding and meaningful avenue for STEM engagement and provide a casting sourcing con- tact point to attendees who buy or design castings. In conjunction with the summit, AFS will host a

special event for Women in Metalcasting at FireLake Grill House & Cocktail Bar on September 23 at 6:30 pm. The event is open to all women in the area working in or pursuing careers in metalcasting. The event is free but registration is required. For more information, visit www.afsinc.org.
