Aluminum Castings to Sparkle on National Mall
Occupying the last available space on the National Mall in Washington, D.C., the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture will sit near the National Museum of American History and across the street from the Washington Monument. When it opens in 2016, the presence of metalcasting will be impossible to ignore.
Morel Industries, Seattle, is casting and finishing 3,600 large components that will be mounted on the exterior of the building. Te open spaces in the painted aluminum castings will allow daylight to light the interior while simultaneously illuminating the building’s exterior.
