AFS NEWS AFS Well Represented at GIFA


AFS traveled to Dusseldorf, Germany, June 16-20, for the recent staging of “T e Bright World of Metals” trade fair quartet in Düsseldorf, Germany, which included GIFA—the 13th International Foundry Trade Fair, METEC—the 9th International Metallurgical Trade Fair, THERMPROCESS—the 11th International Trade Fair for T ermo Process Technology and NEWCAST—the 4th International Trade Fair for Precision Castings. AFS and its members were on hand to represent the North Ameri- can metalcasting industry through displays, award-winning presentations and meetings.


AFS hosted two booths, one in the GIFA fair to show- case the technical services AFS provides to members and in- dustry, and the other in NEWCAST to showcase the North American metalcasting capabilities to buyers and designers of castings who were in attendance. AFS’s Modern Casting magazine also jointly staff ed a


booth for Global Casting Magazine with partners Foundry- Planet.com and the China Foundry Association. Along with the exhibitions, the trade fairs off ered techni- cal forums for knowledge transfer. AFS VP of Business Development Al Spada moderated the World Foundry Congress Technical Forum held at GIFA on T ursday, June 18. AFS member Doug Trinowski, VP global research & development for Huettenes-Albertus Chemische Werke, won “Best Paper” at the WFO forum for his paper, “Com- paring the USA and Europe Casting Industries.” At the GIFA forum on June 16, AFS member Tom Mueller, director, application-North America, for Voxeljet Technology, won Best Paper for his lecture, “Performance of Long T in Printed Sand Cores in Aluminum Castings.” T roughout the fi ve days of the international trade fair,


AFS staff also took part in a variety of meetings to exchange ideas to support the next generation of metalcasters and push for improved training and education of the workforce.
