design of experiments and optimization and extended capabilities for all casting processes. Te software is designed to find the best possible set-up for runner dimensions, gate positions and also for both the position and the optimum size of feeders and chills. Metalcasters can use simulations in a virtual proving ground to pursue different quality and cost objectives simultaneously. Tis version includes new options for the simulation of the entire core production process and contains the newest developments for the qualitative predic- tion of as-cast and heat treated properties in aluminum, iron and steel castings.— Magma
BREAKING NEWS AT GIFA
Laempe Mossner Sinto, Meitzendorf, Germany, was launched at the international trade fair as an alliance between core technology company Laempe & Mossner and the world’s largest foundry equipment manufacturer Sinto Group. Sinto acquired 40% of the shares of Laempe, with the majority 60% of shares remaining with the owner family Mossner. “We are very excited about the new partnership with Sinto since it strengthens our position in the world market and we will be able to develop our internationalization strategy as planned,” said Andreas Mossner, managing director, Laempe & Mossner. “With the globally active Sinto group, we achieve a direct access to many production sites worldwide, particularly in the emerging economies. In addition, we are strengthening our sales opportunities in the Japanese automotive sector.” Maus, Campodarsego, Italy; Savelli, Brescia, Italy; and
Fritz Hansberg, Modena, Italy, announced they are enter- ing a strategic partnership agreement under which Maus, maker of automatic grinding and vertical turning machinery, will acquire both Savelli, producer of green sand mold- ing lines and sand plants, and Fritz Hansberg, coremaking equipment provider. The resulting group will be a provider of foundry automation and machining equipment. “Recent trends show clearly that the foundry equipment industry is concentrating,” said Maus CEO Roberto Sam- martin. “The combination of Maus, Savelli and Fritz Hans- berg supported by a global presence in key markets such as Europe, the U.S. and China will enhance the leadership of Maus and position the group to be a reference point for its customers and play a leading role in the industry going forward.

Simulation Software Finite Solutions demonstrated the new capabilities of ver-
sion 8.4.0 of SOLIDCast, FLOWCast and OPTICast. Tese features included the Project Results Viewer, with a new graphics display and enhanced movie making functions. Live demonstrations showed how SOLIDCast takes the results of an un-rigged simulation, and uses them to assist in the design of an effective gating and risering system. Te fully rigged model is then verified using both Fluid Flow and Solidifica- tion analysis, and optimized to improve process yield while guaranteeing product quality.— Finite Solutions.
