OKLAHOMA BRONZE CASTER PRODUCES STATUE OF POPE JOHN PAUL II

A statue of Pope John Paul II that stands more than 20 feet

above the grounds at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois, was cast and produced in Norman, Oklahoma.

Created by artist Teresa Carter, the bronze statue was cast

at The Crucible Foundry and shipped to suburban Chicago, where it stands in honor of the late Pope after being blessed by Archbishop Blase Cupich.

According to a news release from the Archdiocese of Chicago, which commissioned the project in 2013, the 21-ft. statue

weighs 8,000 lbs. and is placed on a 6-ft. black granite base weighing approximately 86,000 lbs.

The statue began with an 18-in. clay sculpture and was completed via investment and sand casting.

The Oklahoman reported that the statue stood for a week outside the Norman facility.

“It feels kind of strange to see him completed,”

Carter said, according to the paper. “He’s been such a part of my life for so long.” 
