sing data gathered from a nationwide survey of U.S. metalcasters, Metal Casting Design & Purchasing can paint a picture of the industry in 2016. The data was compiled from a survey of 1,666 domestic met- alcasting facilities, 85% of the country’s estimated 1,961 plants in 2016. (For clarification, the industry forecast, pg. 27, use s a total of 1,956 facilities, the estimate for 2017.)


ALUMINUM REMAINS TOP MATERIAL Following is a breakdown of the


survey results. T e percent of responses refl ects the number of surveyed facili- ties that responded to each question.

Most Common: Aluminum Least Common: Titanium Forty-nine percent of casting facili- ties in the survey pour aluminum, 29% pour iron, and 28% pour copper-based alloys. T is year’s survey shows a slight increase in the number of aluminum- pouring facilities, but a slight decrease in steel- and iron-pouring plants. Many facilities pour multiple


metals. T is year, 218 (13%) reported pouring both aluminum and iron and 120 facilities pour aluminum, iron and steel.
