Rio Tinto Alcan Investing $4.5 Million in New Ingot Casting Unit
Montreal-based Rio Tinto
Alcan will invest $4.5 million (U.S.) in the Saguenay Lac-Saint- Jean region of Quebec, Canada, to install a new small foundry ingot casting unit. This investment reportedly will
allow Rio Tinto Alcan to better serve key North American markets where demand for aluminium has been strong, particularly from cus- tomers in the transportation and automotive sectors. “This will add 45,000 tons of
value-added small ingot casting ca- pacity,” said Étienne Jacques, chief operating officer, Rio Tinto Alcan, Primary Metal North America. “It is an example of our commit- ment to our customers at a time when manufacturers are using more and more aluminium to reduce the environmental footprint of their products.” Construction work and other
preparations for the new unit are underway, and metal casting pro- duction is expected to begin by the third quarter of 2015.
Dumore Acquires Grove Die Casting President/CEO Guillermo
“Wil” Fernandez announced Du- more Corp., Mauston, Wis., has acquired the assets of Grove Die Casting Inc., Union Grove, Wis. Now registered as Grove Die Casting LLC, the company is oper- ating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Dumore Corporation. According to Fernandez, “The acquisition will help improve our customer respon- siveness by significantly reducing lead time for our lower volume aluminum diecast components. “In addition, it vertically inte-
grates aluminum diecasting capa- bilities within the state of Wiscon- sin and moves toward minimizing or eliminating the dependence on an out-of-state or offshore diecast- ing supply chain for our manu- factured custom DC motors and
industrial tools,” he said. Grove Die Casting LLC will
continue to provide aluminum diecasting, targeting custom- ers with demand for low annual volumes and up to 250,000 parts or more requiring a 600-ton capacity press or less. Dumore Corp. was established
in 1913 by Louis Hamilton and Chester Beach. Today, Dumore is a privately held corporation with multiple business units. Dumore Motors manufactures custom fractional horsepower DC motors, gear motors and motor assemblies. Dumore Tools provides high qual- ity drilling, tapping and grinding tools. Dumore emergency starter solenoids, or battery contactors, for fire pump diesel engines are used around the world.
