AUTOMATIC POURING SYSTEMS The pourTECH™ SYSTEM uses laser based level feedback from the mold’s pouring cup to control the opening of the stopper rod in real time. This allows the system to react to changes in the mold’s flow rate, making it possible to prevent over pouring and short pours.
Mission Statement
Viking Technologies helps foundries reduce their carbon footprint by providing im-
proved pouring (less remelt) and more efficient melting (less energy) based on the pourTECH Automatic Pouring System and Yuatsuki Crushers. Together with our customers, we design solutions based on a mix of standard components and custom designs and focus on long term relationships with them.
Several performance enhancing op- tions, such as FORCEpour, Mold Mapping, Cooling Time Control and Host Communica- tion is available. The pourTECH System can be supplied as a complete unit, including the pouring unit, or as a stand-alone unit for retrofitting existing or other manufacturer’s pouring vessels.
FORCEpour allows the system to anticipate the arrival of the pour cup and start the pour before the index is complete – thereby de- creasing the overall machine cycle time and increasing productivity. Mold Mapping tracks the molds from the pouring station to the shake-out. It allows the user to follow every mold on the cool- ing line and makes it possible to identify a specific mold or groups of molds. Cooling Time Control allows the user to specify each job’s minimum cooling require- ment. The system looks at the entire cooling section and adjusts the mold rate to guarantee the cooling. If the line stops for any reason (pattern changes, breakdowns, iron delay, etc.) the system takes this into account and allows the machine to speed up without compromising the cooling.
Host Communication allows the user to
transfer mold and pouring data to and from a plant computer or database. This data can then be coupled with other mold data can provide a complete quality picture for the mold, including pouring and inoculation results, iron chemistry, temperature, etc.

www.Viking-Technologies.com 60 Viking is the US and Canadian distributor
of the “Crocodile” Runner Breaker from Yu- atsuki. The Crocodile is designed to crush (break) complex returns (gates, runners, scrap, etc.) so they can be handled without tangling together. With crushed returns, the turn-around time (charging time) of the melting furnaces is decreased and the melt efficiency is improved. The Crocodile is available in different sizes - and with Yuatsuki’s patented tooth design, it is used for both ferrous and non-ferrous materials.
Utilizing both in-house and external exper- tise, VIKING TECHNOLOGIES can develop CUSTOM POURING MACHINES and CRUSH- ER SYSTEMS as well as modifying standard equipment to meet the foundry’s needs. VIKING TECHNOLOGIES is located in Madison Heights, MI (Detroit) and provides sales, spare parts and service for both pourTECH and Crusher Systems. Recent customers include: Grede Foundries, Fed- eral Mogul, Waupaca Foundry and INTAT Precision.
