At her installation speech, she said, “To


preserve our way of life, we must continue our eff orts through the Americanism and Legislative programs...which keeps our democratic system working to protect our freedoms. We are participating in our democracy and working to keep America always free by writing to our legislators, voting, encouraging others to vote, teaching proper Flag etiquette, commemorating the Statue of Liberty’s birthday and by supporting the candidates of our choice.” Other Auxiliary positions Lucile held include:


Remembering Past National President Lucile Suchina 1922-2016


“America – Always Free”


We are saddened to report that Past National


President Lucile Suchina, a Life Member who dedicated more than half a century of service to veterans, active-duty military and their families and communities, died on January 9, 2016. Lucile, a Houston, Texas, native, joined the


Auxiliary on the eligibility of her late husband, Andrew, who was a World War II Army veteran and All-American VFW District Commander. She was a charter member and Past President of Auxiliary 6010 and was a Life Member of Spring Branch Auxiliary 8790. Her fi rst major Auxiliary project was raising funds for tape recorders for blind university students. “America—Always Free” was the theme of her


National Presidency during her term from 1985- 1986, when she led the organization to a new membership high of 734,461, marking the 31st year of membership growth. It was also the fi fth consecutive year to top $2 million in the Cancer Aid & Research Fund. She visited all 51 Departments and toured military installations in the Far East and Panama.


National Aide-de-Camp, Chairman of the Pages at the 1977 National Convention, Treasurer of the Southern Conference for three years, and Secretary of her Auxiliary for eight years. She was one of 11 Outstanding Presidents of the Year when she served as Texas Department President in 1976-1977. After her term, she served the Auxiliary as a


member of the National Budget, Advisory, Bylaws and Resolutions Review Committees; as 1989-1990 and 1994-1995 Co-Chairman of the Special Events Committee; and as a member of the Planning Committees for the 1993 National Convention in Dallas; and the 1998, 2003 and 2011 National Conventions in San Antonio. Retired from Exxon USA Headquarters, she


attended the University of Houston, Southwestern University and Humble/Exxon Schools. She was Past President of the International Toastmistress Club at Exxon, Past President of the Northeast Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary and Past President of the Presidents’ Council of the Houston Area Hospital Auxiliaries. She was a Girl Scout leader for more than 30 years and worked as a volunteer at Clear Lake Regional Hospital. She had one son, two daughters, grandchildren


and a great-granddaughter. Both daughters and granddaughters are Auxiliary members.
