CASTLES ON THE RHINE: FAMILY RIVERBOAT ADVENTURE


Reichenstein Castle – a restored medieval castle in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley – is the setting for a special evening ashore including a tour and a gala dinner


1. ARRIVE BASEL /  EMBARK RIVERBOAT Tour begins: 4:00 PM, ms Grace or ms Inspire. A transfer is included from Euroairport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg or Bahnhof Basel SBB to your riverboat. Kick off your family river cruise at a welcome reception aboard your grand floating hotel. Meals D


2.  MT. PILATUS AND LUCERNE


Mountain, forests, and meadows await your family on your way to Lake Lucerne and Mt. Pilatus. Hop on the world’s steepest cogwheel train for your 7,000-foot ascent of Mt. Pilatus – at a 48° angle! Descend to explore Lucerne as you wish, perhaps checking out the cobblestone lanes leading to centuries-old buildings painted with frescoes; the Chapel Bridge, a covered wooden footbridge dating to the 1330s, attached to a water tower once used as a prison; and the Lion Monument, honoring Swiss mercenaries who died during the French Revolution. Then meet up for Swiss fun – fondue and a folklore show. Meals BLD


3.  FRENCH FOR A DAY IN STRASBOURG Renowned for its fairy tale charm, Strasbourg is the cultural capital of the French region of Alsace, so fittingly your family becomes “French for a Day” with a morning of French language lessons, French songs, and a chocolate tasting! Return to the riverboat or explore Strasbourg as you please. Meals BLD

4.  SPEYER / HEIDELBERG & DINE IN A CASTLE Venture forth on your own in the medieval town of Speyer, or head with us to Heidelberg, Germany’s oldest university town, to ride a funicular up to the romantic ruins of Heidelberg Castle, perched above the city with sweeping views of the river. Return to your ship for more cruising before a special evening of fun – dinner and a guided tour at Reichenstein Castle! Meals BLD


5.  CASTLES, LEGENDS, KOBLENZ & BICYCLES During a morning spent cruising the Rhine aboard the riverboat, keep your eyes peeled for riverside castles as you play our “I Spy a Castle” game, and hear legends and lore of the Lorelei from your Tauck Directors. Have lunch on the riverboat’s Sun Deck (weather permitting) before arriving in medieval Koblenz. Choose a walking tour of Old Town with a local guide; or set off on a bicycling tour* along the Rhine-Moselle bicycle route. Meals BLD


6.  KÖLN... A CATHEDRAL & CARNIVAL Take a walking tour of Köln, dominated by the Gothic cathedral Kölner Dom. Learn about the colorful history and traditions of Carnival that grew out of celebrations leading up to the Christian observance of Lent – an important part of Köln’s culture for centuries. Create costumes for and participate in an onboard Carnival party after dinner! Sail to Amsterdam tonight. Meals BLD
