26 Research Information December 2016/January 2017

London Info International 2016 opens its doors on 6 and 7 December. Philip Ditchfield looks forward to the event

One of the most anticipated aspects of London Info International will be the Disruptor Zone, a competitive event giving organisations the opportunity to show the scholarly community their newest ideas, concepts, business models and implementation. Presentations will take place on the event floor in a number of sessions on 6 December, with the most successful final contenders presenting to delegates on the following day. Here we profile three more Disruptor

Zone participants and summaries of what they will be showcasing:

NexGen Healthcare Communications and Post a Poster Scientific and technical posters are routinely used across the world at major scientific and technical congresses and meetings. They offer a snapshot of a piece of research at a particular point in time. Typically posters are printed to A0 size, stuck to a poster board and meeting attendees walk to the poster they are interested in – and, if they are

lucky, speak directly to the researchers about their work. After the congress, posters are usually scrapped and the researcher heads back to their institution. Many posters are only seen by less than 20 other researchers because of their inaccessibility. PostaPoster is new technology that

allows the researcher to tell the story behind their poster content. Using a PDF of the poster they can upload a commentary, zoom to particular areas, highlight key points, set chapters and upload the entire recording to postaposter.com, from where they can share via social media. The information on posters can now be shared globally benefiting research in general and giving researchers an opportunity to ensure their research gets viewed by the widest possible audience.
