PRODUCT UPDATE SAFETY SRA 1200 filtration system
ULT now offers its extraction and filtration system, the SRA 1200, in different models, along with Flextractor extraction arms. The comprehensive solution gives users a one- stop-shop for the removal of hazardous welding fumes, including those from laser welding.
The SRA 1200 is suited for capturing and filtering dry, non-combustible welding fumes in non-explosive air mixtures. The system is available as either a storage or cartridge filter unit. Add-on filter units and adsorbents
are available as complementary parts for all system variants. In the cartridge filter systems, there is installation space for additional post-filters to increase filtration rate. Storage filter units, which guarantee a separation
TEST AND MEASUREMENT
GRay beam position detectors GreenTeg has launched its gRay laser beam position detectors, designed for making power, measurement and position detection all at the same time. The laser beam position detectors are sensitive to all wavelengths from UV to MIR. Powers from tens of microwatts to watts can be detected independent of the beam angle. The compact design of the detector module makes system integration easy.

efficiency of 99.95 per cent, can be equipped with activated carbon to filter gases and vapours. Flextractor extraction arms are available with a diameter range of 75 to 200mm. Depending on their use, they are provided as articulated, mini or telescopic arms. Application-specific capturing elements and mounting brackets round off the comprehensive solution for welding fume extraction. The company has also introduced the LAS 300.81-HFM054, an ATEX certified extraction and filtration unit with H class filtration that is suited for the removal of combustible dusts.

LASERS
ClearSurface femtosecond laser process
Spectra-Physics has introduced ClearSurface, a femtosecond laser process for surface functionalisation. The process patterns high-resolution shapes into the part, each with individually tailored surface properties. For instance, the degree of wettability can be controlled from super-hydrophobic (highly water repellent), to super-hydrophilic. ClearSurface uses the Spirit family of industrial femtosecond lasers. It enables the fabrication of new medical devices, micro-fluidics, sensors, and other precision parts and devices with controlled and patterned surface properties. ClearSurface can be used to create extremely
hydrophobic surfaces with high contact angles (>160°) for water droplets, so that even in standing water, the processed surface effectively repels water. ClearSurface can also be used to generate surfaces with a specified degree of wettability or contact angle. These specified surface properties can be patterned in high- resolution and into adjacent regions for custom part designs and shapes.
ClearSurface complements Spectra-Physics’ ClearShape femtosecond laser process for the fast, high quality cutting of transparent brittle materials, such as glass and sapphire.
