THE MAIN EVENT


Te laser material processing community is set to meet at the end of May for Lasys in Stuttgart. Laser Systems Europewill be at the trade fair and reporting on news from the show. Te team has also, in partnership with Messe Stuttgart and the Laser Institute of America, organised a series of presentations for the Lasers in Action forum, which will run on all three days of the event. Te full programme of talks, including abstracts, can be found starting on page 24, while a preview of some of the technology that will be on display on the exhibition floor begins on page 18. Te highlight of the forum will be a panel discussion


on current and future trends in laser materials processing, moderated by Laser Systems Europe’s Warren Clark. Te panel will convene on 1 June from 12.30 to 13.30 and will be formed of Dave MacLellan from the Association of Industrial Laser Users, Markus Rütering from Laserline, Klaus Kleine from Coherent, and Lars Penning from Next Scan Technology. Te VDMA will also hold a panel discussion on the


industrial photonics market in Asia, with speakers from Euro Asia Consulting, NanoFocus and Trumpf, as well as Gerhard Hein of the VDMA. Also in this issue, there are feature articles on laser job


shops (page 32), the intricacies of marking medical components (page 38), and hybrid welding of large structures like ship hulls (page 42). Te Laser Systems Europe team will on hand at Lasys
