PRODUCT FOCUS POSITIONING EQUIPMENT Perfect position A round-up of the latest products for positioning and stabilising optical equipment
The Seepos PSD Signal Processing System is the newest position sensing detector (PSD) technology from Laser Components. It provides a simple and intuitive software environment where the performance of a PSD can be evaluated in real time, and the data saved for later processing. The Seepos system includes all the hardware, cables, and software required to connect the unit to a PC. The software interface is simple, clear and provides users with the capability to alter and manipulate features such as data sampling, bias voltage, and modulation settings, including a trigger source for laser modules.
The Seepos is compatible with a range of PSDs, which are pre-connected to a D-sub 9 connector, allowing for easy connection to the system. The Seepos is ideal for users new to PSDs who prefer to use a software interface to evaluate the device performance before progressing to installing a PSD in their own product.

PI has released the second generation of its PInano product line of high resolution XY/XYZ multi-axis positioning systems. The package includes the piezo scanner, software, and a new state-of-the art digital controller.
The digital servo piezo controller offers high
linearity, simple operation, and easy access to advanced features. It enables responsive real-time tracking, and supports PI’s ‘Fast Focus & Freeze’ capability, where the unit can be switched from an external (focus) sensor to an internal (capacitive, SGS or piezoresistive) sensor, for precise, calibrated, stable motions with respect to the focal plane. The software package includes drivers for
LabView, and dynamic libraries for Windows, Linux, and Matlab. The system is also compatible with major image acquisition packages, such as MetaMorph, Andor iQ and µManager. Interfaces consist of USB, SPI, RS-232, and analogue. Supported functions include wave generator, data recorder, auto zero, and trigger I/O. The low profile (20mm), long travel of 200µm, and millisecond step time make the PInano II piezo positioning systems ideal for super-resolution microscopy and imaging applications.

40 ELECTRO OPTICS l OCTOBER 2016
Pro-Lite Technology and Owis have introduced a new series of high-precision linear stages, the Limes 84N, replacing the Limes 80 and Limes 84. The integrated ball screw and re-circulating ball bearing guides enable long lasting and highly accurate positioning. The backlash-free guides ensure optimal motion as well as high load capacity. The highly resistant black anodised protective coating of the aluminium parts prevents almost all reflections or stray light.
Specifically, the resulting products provide: less than 150μrad of angular deviation in pitch and yaw; a dovetail stacking system that eliminates cumbersome dowel pins; side or end actuation with easy conversion between the two options; left- or right-handed multi-axis configurations; deep and blind ¼ inch-20 (M6) tapped holes on the moving world; and ultra smooth cross roller bearings. A two-inch travel option, which will be compatible with the dovetail stacking feature on the one-inch stage, will be available late 2016.

With their excellent positioning properties, they
are particularly suitable for use in both research and development and industrial applications that require continuous operations. The Limes 84N are available in different travel ranges of up to 270mm, with a two-phase step motor or a DC servo motor with encoder. Vacuum-prepared versions are available on request.

Thorlabs has released a new line of XR-Series cross roller bearing, aluminium-bodied translation stages. The initial release includes both rear- and side-actuated one-inch travel stages, with all the components having left- or right-handed X, XY, XZ, YZ, and XYZ configurations. A dovetail feature is incorporated into the design for stacking; it could also be used to produce custom mounting options. When stacking two stages, coarse positional alignment in the axis perpendicular to stage travel is achieved by sliding the dovetail along the mating dovetail prior to lockdown.
Symetrie has launched a new hexapod, named Puna, to meet precision positioning applications in research or industry with optimised budgets.
Designed to position up to 20kg
payloads with a submicronic resolution, Puna hexapod offers travel ranges of 60mm in X and Y and up to 40° in Rz. It is 200mm tall in mid position. Benefiting from Symetrie’s
15 years of experience in the development of high precision hexapods, Puna hexapod can meet limited budgets while offering a resolution of 0.5µm in translation and 5µrad
Zygo has recently introduced the next evolution of short-range position metrology. The ZPS Absolute Position Measurement System facilitates high-precision position measurements over a
range of 1.2mm using ultra-compact optical sensors. The system delivers up to 64 synchronised channels at a 208kHz data rate with a 0.01nm resolution. Applications for ZPS include closed-loop feedback to maintain precise positioning and alignment, such as in multi-element optical systems or deformable mirrors. The system can also be applied in research, development and engineering and manufacturing environments for test fixture alignment, or quantifying dynamic mechanical performance such as deformation or vibration.
The ultra-compact optical sensors do not generate heat and are insensitive to electromagnetic interference. ZPS uses fibre optic cabling, allowing for remote sensor location without impacting the measurement data. Optional accessories enable automatic compensation for ambient environmental changes in real time.

(0.0003°) in rotation. To simplify the design, the motor is mounted in line and includes an incremental rotary encoder.
Puna hexapod operates in any direction: vertically, horizontally or in any other angle. The hexapod comes with its controller and a control interface compatible with LabView, Epics, Spec, Tango or C. The ergonomic software allows users to configure virtual centres of rotation and to change coordinates systems easily.
