This time of year is always a busy one in the ToolBUSINESS+HIRE calendar and this autumn has been no exception, especially for Peter Brett. He has attended four shows or exhibitions since we published the October edition. I accompanied him to the UK Construction Week at the NEC in Birmingham followed by the HAE HEA Convention, this year held at the Ricoh Arena in Coventry. Peter’s annual pilgrimage to the D and M Show at Kempton Park was preceded by a visit to ScrewFix Live! at Farnborough, both very busy shows. Reports and photos can be seen later in the magazine. I was also very privileged to be invited to an evening reception in London,

hosted by KPMG and the Construction Youth Trust in the presence of HRH The Duke of Gloucester. This was to announce the Trust’s exciting plans to launch a coordinated, cross-industry campaign to inspire young people about the modern industry and proactively promote industry careers in schools. Mark Thurston, CEO of High Speed 2 Ltd, spoke on the importance of inspiring and engaging young people about the Built Environment and the modern industry. The Construction Youth Trust is a charity whose aim is to inspire and enable

young people to overcome barriers and discover a career in construction. Each year they work with over 4,000 young people; many of whom are the hardest to reach, from challenging backgrounds including young offenders, care leavers, and the long- term unemployed. The trust also reaches out to those who are just unaware of the opportunities available to them within the construction industry. With the support of a number of major construction companies, the

Construction Youth Trust achieves this by delivering two main programmes, which provide practical training and education as well as careers advice - Budding Builders which focuses on the trades, and Budding Brunels which focuses on the professions. This is a great charity and their work is vital to help fill the skills shortage within the industry, especially with the challenges

of Brexit looming. This magazine is a Dust Extraction special – the importance of dealing with dust is of vital importance for both the health

of building and construction workers, but also for the general public who can be exposed to the dangers of dust from building sites and renovation projects. James Miller from Dustcontrol has written an excellent article on this subject for the Voice of the Industry feature and Peter has tested two dust extraction units, one from V-Tuf and one from Festool. He has also written reviews on a Flex drill driver and some Wera bitboxes and bitholders. New technologies play a part this month, with information from Stahlwille on the use of a smart visor to help guide the

end user in the use of bolt tightening tools, and Snickers on their Climate Control Workwear with 37.5® Technology fabric. As the next magazine will be mailed out around Christmas time, in this edition I send out my first festive greetings! I hope

the run up to Christmas is a busy and fruitful one for all ToolBUSINESS+HIRE readers, and the Christmas break itself is a relaxing and enjoyable few days. This magazine and all past editions can be seen online at www.toolbusiness.co.uk. The website is constantly updated with the latest news, so do take a look when you have time.
