HAE EHA Trade Fair and Co New Venue and Tighter Foc

The Ricoh Arena in Coventry is much used for conventions and shows because

of its easy access via road, rail and air and the free parking isn’t a bad idea either. But I can’t have been the only one to notice that the focus of the convention

had sharpened, so that many of the major issues facing the hire industry can be addressed and discussed by members, to ensure best practice is carried forward, regardless of the uncertainties that face the economy right now. A Packed Two Day Schedule With almost military precision, the organisers ensured that the schedule of

workshops, seminars and meetings took place on time and with the correct PowerPoint slides in place.

I attended a few of the presentations and was impressed with their quality and

the discussion they provoked. Mica de Boer from De Boer Structures gave a fascinating account of how a temporary facility had been erected during a recent terrorist attack in London. As a result of contingency planning already done by the authorities in London, the De Boer organisation was able to spring into action and, within three days, establish a massive temporary medical facility and clearing station including the necessary washing, feeding and storage facilities. It is great to know that such planning exists, despite fervently hoping that it will

never be needed. But another seminar, led by Naomi Riches MBE, an ex- Paralympic rower, about the multitude of ways of improving performance by individuals and teams, underlined that we in Britain do not lack the talent, drive and intelligence to be able to respond positively to all manner of situations. Other speakers from the world of the CITB, Health and Safety, Training, Crime

Prevention and Technology provided a rounded view on how the hire industry can tackle the challenges it faces. Again, what is clear is that we are not short of ideas or solutions, and that the UK is in a very good position to continue to build a world class hire industry by developing and applying them. Exhibitors Exhibitors

at the HAE convention provide a welcome opportunity to chat about the concrete here and now. Real products for real users, even if they do include some very interesting training opportunities via virtual reality. Dust and working at height continue to be issues that must be addressed

sooner rather than later. Despite the fact that the regulations have already been introduced, we can still see that many end users are either unaware or largely
