The Rainy Day Trust – The Charity Supporting The Home Improvement

Industry The Rainy Day Trust is the only charity to offer assistance to the whole industry, and has launched a range of new services, specifically tailored to the needs of people in financial difficulties. CEO Bryan Clover said: “We’ve listened to what people have told us, and can now offer several different services

to meet their needs. We will still be making financial grants to meet immediate problems, but we can now wrap around other services, to give a longer-term benefit.” Most recently, the Big Lottery Fund provided a grant of nearly £9,000 to

support the Trust’s work with older people and the Trust has built partnerships with Shelter for housing advice and the Debt Advice Foundation. Bryan added: “These partnerships have allowed us to tap into experts in their field. People who use these services won’t pay a penny. Our aim is to be a one-stop-shop for people from our industries who are struggling to make ends meet.” Last year, the Trust launched a welfare benefits checker on their website

www.rainydaytrust.org, and to date 21,000 people have completed it, with over £170 million in benefits identified. Its new flagship programme is to support apprentices coming into the industry, helping them to complete their course and get a full-time job. “The best bit is all these services can be accessed through our website or just

one telephone number,” he said. “No hunting around for the right number to call.” For beneficiaries or help please call the Rainy Day Trust contact centre on 0203

OBITUARY – Jack Haymer sadly

passes away aged 80 It is with deep sadness that we announce a long-term supporter of Hire

Association Europe and our very dear friend, Jack Haymer, passed away in the early hours of Tuesday 7th February 2017 aged 80, following a brave battle with a highly aggressive form of Leukaemia. Jack played an integral role in the launch of SafeHire Certification and was the first ever SafeHire Assessor, working for HAE between 2008 and 2013. The photo captures Diane Wood, National Specialist Accreditation Centre, CITB, Peter Varney, Total Hire & Sales and the late Jack Haymer. Many of our members and colleagues remember Jack with great fondness and have taken to Facebook to express their condolences and to share their memories. Commenting on the sad loss, HAE managing director said: “Jack had infinite knowledge of the hire industry and his enthusiastic approach to helping us achieve high standards enabled Jack to quickly establish himself as a trusted and much respected figure within the association and industry as a whole. He will be missed by all at HAE and particularly myself, Gill Bridger and Melanie Kilkenny, having built a close relationship with him over the years.” Jack’s funeral will be held on Friday 17th February at Halifax Minster Church at 2:15pm followed by a private committal and celebrations of his life at the Shay Stadium. Everyone at HAE extends their deepest sympathy and their thoughts and prayers are with his family and close friends. He will be very sadly missed.
