7 – Busy, Buzzy, Business

January 2018. However, even non HAE members have benefited because HAE SafeHire team members have been around to offer help and advice on the standards throughout the two days of the show. The SafeHire Information Zone that was accessible to everyone provided lots

of information and advice on how to achieve SafeHire Certification. All companies and hirers benefit from improved Health & Safety procedures and customer service standards. By using current case studies, members and others could have practical examples of how SafeHire standards could help improve things. Jim MacCall, one of HAE’s most experienced SafeHire assessors, presented two free- to-attend workshops that highlighted the business advantages and efficiencies that certification can bring.

Of course,

the HAE wouldn’t deny deserving members an award or two and the Hire Awards of Excellence 2017 shortlist was announced. It included PSM Plant Hire, A Plant, HSS and Plant Tool Hire Ltd. The winner will be announced at

the glittering HAE gala dinner at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on the 22nd April. Also delivered were the SafeHire Certifications to six companies who had

gained SafeHire status by meeting all the criteria. Plant security is still a burning issue in the industry and ever more sophisticated

methods are being used to combat theft. The CESAR Scheme is just one of these. It relies on a security system concealed on the machine as well as a registration scheme that ensures that stolen machines can be tracked, found and returned.

Insurance companies love it and some offer reductions on premiums. Police forces find it very useful, too, as it aids their investigations and helps them find the culprits. According to post show analysis The Executive Hire Show 2017 was the

biggest show in its 11-year history with more exhibitors than ever before – 190 to be exact. The Executive Hire team confirmed that the 2017 Show

attracted 1,813 relevant hire industry visitors. The total number of unique visitors scanned was 2,447 and this figure also excludes all exhibitor personnel. They also confirmed that 93% of visitors to the show also visited the new Hire Show Hall area – which is excellent news. The Show overall attracted senior executives and procurement teams from all

leading national hirers, with 52 visitors from A-Plant representing this year’s largest hirer group to attend the Show. Representatives from the other UK national hirers, including Brandon, GAP, Hire Station & HSS also came to the Ricoh Arena and continued their support of this national event in significant numbers. The EHS also

confirmed that “86% of all relevant hire industry visitors were from independent operations, which is up from last year. This re-confirms the pivotal role of local and regional hirers in the on- going success of the Show.” Perhaps it is time to put

a note in the diary that next year’s EHS Show will be at the Ricoh Arena again on the 7th & 8th February 2018.
