what little ones can
teach us …
baby classes - for grown ups!

After more than 20 years of working with children, 19 years as a parent and over a decade of running pre school activities, children’s parties and family events I have been so lucky to learn so much from the children I’ve met. I am truly inspired by the enthusiasm and excitement of the little ones who I am lucky enough to spend time with daily. As parents we are surrounded by information from experts who advise us how and what we should teach our children. Perhaps, what we may not consider with so much focus on teaching our children, is how much we can learn and rediscover from them. Here are just some examples of what our children can teach us:
1 A love of laughter Babies and children love to laugh and will laugh at the smallest, simplest things, often for the sheer pleasure of laughing. The more we join in the funnier it gets!
2 Communication without words Babies and toddlers are very communicative in everything they do and being with them reminds us of how much we can say without words. Through watching them, we as adults, can become more aware the many ways we can communicate with and connect with others.
3 Lack of inhibition I love that little ones do what they feel and express themselves freely. When they are happy or excited we know instantly. To show their curiosity they stare, if they see something fun or interesting they join in. Whilst I am not suggesting we all start picking our noses, jumping in puddles and throwing tantrums in supermarkets, I think life can be more enjoyable if we can relax and worry less about how others perceive us.

4 A sense of wonder and enjoyment at the world and an appreciation of small things Little ones show such fascination and joy at the things we adults take for granted such as autumn leaves, water and bubbles. Through watching their reaction we are reminded of the amazing things around us and can re-experience them with renewed pleasure.
5 We need to connect with others and be close to others Every day I see babies and toddlers showing affection towards each other – often when they have never met before. They seem physically drawn to each other and it appears in such a natural way. It reminds me of how much we need human contact and how important it is to feel closeness with others.
Little Fizz Award Winning classes (ages 0-4) are held every week day in Cardiff, Caerphilly and Penarth. Each 1 hr session includes 40 fun filled minutes of music, movement, parachute games, instruments, bubbles, storytelling and sensory play, followed by 20 minutes social time with refreshments. Little Fizz Classes are inspired by the excitement and energy with which babies and young children approach both new discoveries and familiar activities. The emphasis is on individual enjoyment, expression and experience and on spending special time together.
